Joe Stitt and Arthur Greenwood represented Partridge, Regal and Marryatt at a Open Day held by First Cast NI at Straid Fishery, Ballynure, Co. Antrim on Monday 5th May.

First Cast NI is a community organisation, working with local health and government organisations to bring people into the sport of angling. Recent events have included a Father and Kids Bonding Project and a fly-fishing Youths Project designed to encourage young people away from the X Box and into the Tackle Box!

Despite the typical wet and windy May Day Bank Holiday weather, a large number of participants attended during the day to avail of the ‘Have-a-Go’ sessions, provided free by Straid Fishery.

Joe demonstrated the Marryatt rods (which are on sale at the Fishery) on the lake and Arthur got the better part of the deal by remaining indoors, warm and dry, tying flies on Partridge hooks and on a Regal vice. Arthur helped one lad Harry with his Black and Silver spider who caught a rainbow trout some half and hour later!

Quite a few of the young people took their newly tied creations outside to the lake where Joe was, and he helped the kids ensure that fish were caught on the flies, thus hooking more than the rainbow trout!

A super day was had by all. Many thanks to Alan Greer from First Cast NI for organizing and to Straid Fishery’s Ray McKeeman for providing the facilities. We’ll be back!
