On the weekend of Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd November PRO-Team member Hakan Karsnaser held a Salmon fly tying workshop focusing primarily on Partridge blind-eye hooks.

One of the hooks that Hakan used for the workshop was the HE2 #1/0 Barleet XL Blind Eye which is a particulary special hook as it is hand filed. The other hook was the CS10/3 #3/0 Barleet Blind Eye hook and both are ideal for traditional salmon patterns, so were perfect for the workshop!

The workshop was held at a boarding house in a place called Sjohaga Pensionat in Sweden. Eleven tyers attended the workshop led by Hakan and for some of them this was their first time tying a fully dressed salmon fly, so it was a great experience for all.

The Saturday saw the group tying the Green Highlander. This took the majority of the day but this was also due to Hakan taking the group through all of the aspects of fly tying such as tools, materials, feathers and substitues, so it was a real lesson in fly tying.

The second day, Sunday, was spent tying spey flies and two patterns were managed that day; The Golden Riach and Lady Caroline.

The workshop was a real success and Hakan tells us that due to everyone present enjoying the weekend there may well be one next year - some requests for soon in the new year infact but we will have to see what happens. Watch this space!
