Well, the Show Season has started and the APGAI Ireland/Partridge Pro-Team fly-dressers have come out of hibernation!
Late January saw the first demos when Arthur Greenwood and Joe Stitt attended an event in Holywood, Co. Down to raise funds for a charity supported by The Irish International Fly Fair. An unusual event as the organisers had commandeered the entire upstairs bar in a local pub - Only in Ireland! It was a great day, with welcome cash raised for a worthy cause.
In early February, APGAI Ireland held a Continuing Professional Day in the Clubrooms of Banbridge Angling Club for its fly-dressing members at which Ireland’s top tying Instructors gathered to watch and learn from each other and while Joe tied #22 dries on Partridge Midge Supremes, Arthur went to the other end of the scale, demonstrating pike patterns on Partridge Universal Predator 4/0s! Everyone left a highly educational session having learned something new.
The opening Show of the season was the Irish Angling Expo at the end of February, held in the National Show Centre, Swords, Co. Dublin. Big crowds visited the two-day event and the Partridge Pair of Arthur and Joe attracted lots of interest on their indoor stand as the weather was cold, wet and windy and the outside casting demonstrators had little custom. Two good days to be a fly-dresser!
So, we’re up and running for another busy season of Fly Fairs, Shows and Club demos. Check back here for our progress and maybe we’ll actually find time in the schedule to get some fishing in as well!
