DRESSING: |
| |
For the Bulkley Special - replace Black Marabou for Purple, and the White Rabbit for Purple.
These flies are large and they toss very well, for spey the new Skagit lines are excellent. I recommend for Atlantic Salmon these flies be tossed a the end of a tippet on a dry line. Fished at a low sub-surface depth they should be very productive. ( Big Red )
To the the Skeena Special start:
| |
Step
1:
Wrap the hook with lead wire, 6 wraps will give you a about 1 line weight heavier than the fly.
| |

Step
2:
Stack the tail first with Black Buck tail, then Black Kid Goat, then about 15/20 Peacock Flashabou.
| |
Step
3:
Finish the tail of with Black Marabou.

| |

Step
4:
Wrap the hook with the Small Silver Chenille.
| |
Step
5:
Add a Chartreuse Kid Goat Throat Hackle.

Step 6:
Over the back stack first Lime Green Polar Bear& then add 10 strands of Pearle Krystal Flash.
Step 7:
Over the back stack Green Buck tail.

Step 8:
Add fines, or gilles of white rabbit, about half the length of the body.
Step 9:
Finish the back with Chartreuse Marabou.

Step 10:
Finish head, by first wrapping Silver Diamond Braid to form the Head.
Step 11:
Wrap the Diamond Braid as shown here. Bring it over the top of the head and hold it with the nail of your thumb. Your first wrap starts at the eye and wrap to the top of the head.

Step 12& 13:
Cover the Diamond braid with Black Thread, and finish.
Step 13:

Step 14:
Coat the Head with Flex Seal and let dry, the coat with a 2 part epoxy. Best is a Gibbs Rod Wrap, and let dry for about 12/20 hours. Dip dot on White part of the eye, and when dry the Black part. From here you apply about 4 light coats of the 2 part epoxy, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. A small paint brush works well. For the eyes I use the end of different size paint brushes.
