My name is Olli Koskinen and I am a 25 years old flytyer
from Joensuu, Finland. I have tied flies for 16 years.
For last seven years I have specialized on tying fully dressed
salmon flies.
I was honoured to meet Mr. Ole A. Bjerke last April in Tampere.
We had an interesting discussion about traditional salmon
flies and he asked me to tie a salmon fly using Partridge´s
handmade blind eye hook that has been developed with highly
respected fly tiers Terry Griffiths, Paul Little, Marvin
Nolte, Peter Dunne, Charlie Chute and Jens Pilgaard.
The first thing to do is to find a good hook when starting
to create a new salmon fly. I believe that there is a certain
type of fly for every hook model. I am happy that I had an
opportunity to use this specific hook model that has been
designed by great artists of fly tying.
I have participated in Mustad Scandinavian Open Flytying
Competition in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2003. I have won two
times fly tying Champion Competition of Finland. In years
1998, 2003 and 2004 I have been a member of the Jury in Flytying
Champion Competition of Finland.
Every time I tie a salmon fly I try to develop something
new that inspires me and keeps up the spirit of the traditional
salmon fly. I like to tie wings with different kind of styles
and shapes. The Dream of Scarlet is my own creation. It is
a synthesis of traditional and modern salmon fly. I look
forward to participate in World Champions Fly tying Competition
in the future. Still, I believe that there are some good
ideas left to find.
I hope that with this fly I can encourage others to tie
salmon flies and use this nice blind eye salmon hook!
