Firstly, they were asked by the prestigious Rossinver Fishery on Lough Melvin to assist at their two Open Days at the Fishery. Each morning consisted of Joe’s casting demonstrations and tuition using Marryatt fly rods and Arthur’s fly dressing sessions on Partridge hooks and a Regal vice. In the afternoons, the participants were given the opportunity to use their new found skills on the lake, ghillied among others by Arthur, Joe and Rossinver Fishery’s, Jim Hoy, who is also an APGAI Ireland Instructor. It is good to report that all of the beginners caught some of the lovely trout for which Lough Melvin is famous!
The following weekend saw Joe and Arthur attending the hugely popular two-day Northern Ireland Countryside Festival held in Balmoral Park, Lisburn, Co. Antrim, again waving the flag for Partridge, Marryatt and Regal. Glorious weather on the Saturday brought out a large crowd and saw Joe working hard, giving beginners and improvers some tuition in fly-casting with a range of Marryat rods. Sunday was cloudier and with a few spots of drizzle, so the marquee was popular as lots of children and improvers worked with Arthur tying a range of flies, ranging from simple spiders to more detailed patterns using a Regal vice and Partridge hooks.
June will be another busy month for your Dynamic Duo as there will be an Open Day at Brookhall Fishery, Lisburn as well as the prestigious Irish Game Fair to be held at Shane’s Castle at the end of the month. Drop by and say ‘Hello’!
