Well, it has been a busy summer for Joe Stitt and Arthur Greenwood. We have been representing Partridge in casting and tying demonstrations at all of the Irish Game Fairs since our last report in May.
The Great Game Fairs of Ireland event held in the beautiful Shane’s Castle Estate in Co. Antrim at the end of June was a great success as we worked with the organisers to produce an ‘integrated experience’ for children new to the world of fly-fishing. Firstly, the kids worked with Arthur in producing their first ever fly, tied on a Partridge hook and a Regal vice, of course, then they had a casting lesson on grass - obviously using a Marryat rod. Next step was the pond, stocked with rainbows, where they caught their first trout. Each child then had the option of returning the fish, although some chose to retain it. In that case, we introduced them to Emmett McCourt, our celebrity chef, who would either cook the fish there and then or prepare it for the kids to take home with a few suggested simple recipes. All in all, it was a huge hit with visitors to the Game Fair and we look forward to repeating the programme in the future.
Joe continued to work on behalf of Partridge and Marryatt at a number of events during August whilst Arthur skived off to Montana, Idaho and Wyoming to do a bit of trouting on the Rocky Mountain Streams out there. We hooked up again at the big Birr Castle event in Co. Offaly where again we waved the flag on behalf of Partridge, Regal and Marryat. Our next appearance will be at the inaugural Irish Game Fair & Flavour Fine Food Festival in Montalto Estate, Co. Down at the end of September - Do call in and see us!
