Profile: Morten Öland

My name is Morten Øland. I was born in Denmark in 1977. I’m a fishing guide, fly tying and flyfishing instructor, as well as licensed environmental engineer.

I grew up close to some of Denmark’s best trout and ”stalling” rivers – where my fly fishing career started for real. I’m a trout fisherman, which can also be seen from the fly patterns I tie. As a result of this, tying imitation flies is my greatest interest.

For the past few years, I have spent much time on developing new fly tying techniques – innovative flytying is part of my regular life. My flies can be classified in the category ”advanced flies”, and they have been created on the basis of my practical fishing experiences and entomology. I addition to this I tie super-realistic imitations – art flies.

I’ m also very interested in fly fishing for sea trout along the Danish coast, as well as tying flies for this purpose. In that connection, I have also tried out tropical saltwater flyfishing for the past few years.

When I’m not tying flies or fishing, I often write articles and take photos for various fishing magazines – among others ”Fiske-Feber” (Fishing Fever) and Flytying.

I really enjoy travelling around the world with my fly rod and vice. Coming to a new fishing lake where you need to use new types of flies and techniques is what really makes a fly fisher develop.

  Best fly-fishing wishes
Morten Oland
