USES
FOR THE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF SLF
SLF Standard Dubbing: can be used as an alternative to seal's
fur for any flies of all sizes from size 2 down to about size 18.
It is better than seal's fur because it handles well and the colours
are strictly controlled to ensure consistency.
SLF
Hanks (Fibres): can be used for wings of salmon, sea trout and
steelhead flies. It can be "laminated" to build up bodies for fry
and baitfish patterns. It is very popular for winging on salt water
flies. The fibres are about 21/2'' long.
SLF
Finesse Dubbing: a fine dubbing for small flies from about size
12 down to size 20.
SLF
Twists: are twisted strands of wire with SLF Standard Dubbing
trapped between them. These are ideal for quick dubbing on many
standard wet flies and nymph patterns where a little extra weight
needs to be incorporated. They are excellent for all goldhead patterns.
SLF
Midge Dubbing: a really fine dubbing for very small flies from
size 16 down to size 28. One packet should provide enough material
for at least 300 flies!

THE QUALITY OF SLF
British: The development of SLF is entirely British and it
is also made in Britain. Translucency: The mix of fibres and their
surface texture give a natural almost life-like lustre to SLF which
closely matches the characteristics of the body of many natural
insect forms.
Handling: The mixed fibres
give SLF an ideal structure for ease of dubbing. Body: The mix of
long and several different shorter fibres gives SLF as dubbing material
the required handling qualities for tying natural imitations.
Consistency: Because it is
a controlled man-made material SLF does not vary from batch to batch
and, above all, can be dyed to exact shades again and again.
Versatility: Although SLF
was developed primarily as a material for dubbing, it has excellent
fly tying applications in hank (fibre) form for wings, tails, and
hackles of various types of flies. In particular, Davy has created
a range of fly patterns using SLF fibres as the body.
Extensive Colours: Using combinations
of the 48 different shades of SLF, almost any special shade can
be produced by the fly tyer. Permanent Colours: The types of dyes
and the method of dyeing ensure that SLF holds its colour in water.

1. Taff Price: "I have now given up longing for traditional
seal's fur for my flies, because SLF is the material we have all
been waiting for."
2. Dick Stewart: "No other
product has the brilliance of colour and the translucency, nor the
versatility of these synthetic blends."
3. Gary Borger: "Now I have,
in SLF, a material that replaces seal's fur. It is better than any
dubbing of this type I have ever used. It's changed the way I design
flies. Don't be without it!!"
4. Poul Jorgensen: "SLF is
without doubt one of the finest dubbings that has ever been made.
It is really great for salmon & steelhead patterns, caddis, dry
fly and all that you would wish for. There is none better on the
market."
5. John Betts: "SLF is unique
and superlative and unlike any other product on the market. I am
looking forward to exploiting its obvious uses in all aspects of
fly tying, both new and traditional."
6. Dave Whitlock: "SLF is
a great dubbing that puts incredible life and sparkle into any fly.
It's good both when used as is and when blended with other natural
furs and synthetics".
(SLF was developed in the UK by
Davy Wotton and is marketed worldwide by Partridge of Redditch).
